It was synthesized by M/s Rhone Poulence Laboratories of Paris, to meet the demand for a drug that will be effective in the prcvention and/or treatment of surgical shock, This was sought to be achicved by damping out the homeostalic regulating reactions including those under the control of the hypothalamus, by Ihe use of a suitable pharmacodynamic agent, supplemented by induced hypothermia. CPZ was introduced to meet these pharmacodynamic requirements.
